What is purple corn?
For centuries the people of Peru have embraced the natural goodness of purple corn to live healthy, vibrant lives with a traditional homemade drink called chicha morada (chee*cha mor*ah*dah). The source of the “purple” is an anthocyanin called C3G, one of the most potent antioxidants in existence. Purple corn is higher in antioxidants than blueberries, pomegranates and açaí berries. It can be found mostly in Peru, where it has been cultivated for over 2,500 years.
the importance of antioxidants.
An antioxidant is a molecule capable of slowing or preventing the oxidation of other molecules. Oxidation is a chemical reaction that transfers electrons from a substance to an oxidizing agent. Oxidation reactions can produce free radicals, which start chain reactions that damage cells. Antioxidants terminate these chain reactions by removing free radical intermediates, and inhibit other oxidation reactions by being oxidized themselves.
